Radiology of Trauma - Beyond the Pictures
Historically the cornerstone for chiropractic imaging both clinically and educationally has been plain film radiography. In this presentation we will closely examine the process of imaging decision making in a setting of trauma and review common injuries encountered. The focus will be on findings discernable on plain film radiography of the spine and pelvis with review of basic radiography protocols, anatomy and important signs of trauma explained. This will be by regional approach to include the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spines as well as the pelvis. Selected case studies of the extremities will also be included with a brief overview of emergency imaging of severe poly-trauma scenarios with head, chest and abdominal injuries encountered in a trauma hospital to familiarize participants with imaging procedures.
A key element will be the review and appropriate use of descriptive terminologies and the reporting jargon commonly used in trauma reports. A methodology for improving individual practitioner interpretive skills is reviewed. A correlative approach utilizing anatomical and pathological specimens with relevant imaging provides the blueprint for synthesis into therapeutic methods that can be applied.
Dr. Lindsay J. Rowe, Chiropractor, Medical Doctor, Radiologist, Educator and Author, returns to ProSport Chiropractic on this 20th Anniversary to present to the Chiropractic profession in his own unique way using diagnostic imaging as the medium to blend knowledge, experience and humour with perspectives from both chiropractic and medical viewpoints unique in the healing professions.

Exercise, Toxins, Free Radicals, and Detoxification Strategies
There is evidence that free radicals are at the center of aging and degeneration. There is proof that intense exercise produces excessive free radicals, accelerating both aging and degeneration. For example, excessive free radicals are linked to artery disease, cancer, and degenerative joint disease. There is also proof that excessive free radicals are linked to environmental toxins. The competitive athletic will and must exercise; but there are a number of strategies to avoid free radical producing toxins as well as nutritional approaches to eliminate the toxins before they can produce the destructive free radicals. This presentation will explore these concepts so that the class participants will gain practical applications that will enhance athletic performance and performance longevity.
